How Can We Help?

About Us

Who is behind Spicewell?

Moms and people who have moms :-) and anyone responsible for nourishing others. Check out The Spicewell Story.

How is Spicewell helping make the world better?

Besides bringing nutrient dense foods to everyone to help reduce and mitigate chronic illness through healthy eating, Spicewell supports The Food Fix Campaign to lobby for change in our government for our wellness and the health of our land through regenerative practices and The Desai Foundation to help support their programs in Indian villages and farms.

What is your commitment to sustainability?

Packaging has been a big journey for us as we wanted to be 100% sustainable. Our sachets are made from paper and fully recyclable. Our pouches are made from 80% post-consumer recycled plastic, while some versions are 100% compostable paper. Our shakers are made from 100% paperboard which is compostable, with a plastic shaker top that is 100% recyclable. We are committed to be 100% plastic free and fully compostable in the near future - but the packaging industry has not caught up with our desires yet.

Where do your vitamins come from? Where do you source your ingredients?

All of our vitamins are sourced from organic vegetables, plants and fruits. Everything was grown in soil. Nothing from a lab. And all of our vitamin content is 100% plant based. We source all of our ingredients from the best possible sources. Our salt comes from Pakistan, where all Himalayan salt originates. Our turmeric and pepper is sourced inwhole form so that it can’t be adulterated.  Our partners travel to each of the countries we buy from to inspect the ground, crops, dehydrators and all facets of the process to ensure we only buy the safest, freshest and highest-quality ingredients available in the world.

Does cooking affect the vitamins?

No! All of our ingredients are heat-resistant and meant to deliver their full efficacy whether cooked or not.

Ingredients & Absorption

Why is eating vitamins with food better?

We recommend eating your vitamins with your meals, or rather in your meals! Or listen to our friends at The Cleveland Clinic "The best source of vitamins and minerals is a plate that is one-quarter fruits, one-quarter vegetables, one-quarter protein, such as fish and poultry, and the other quarter grains.” - Cleveland Clinic

What is Ayurveda ?

"Ayurveda, or ayurvedic medicine, is a healthy-lifestyle system that people in India have used for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda emphasizes good health and prevention and treatment of illness through lifestyle practices (such as massage, meditation, yoga, and dietary changes) and the use of herbal remedies." (source: Wikipedia)

What Ayurvedic ingredients do you use?

Our New Salt is paired with Ashwagandha - a root that is known for its properties of helping our bodies adapt to stress. Spicewell New Salt is also reduced in sodium by 30% when compared to regular salt. Our Spicewell Pepper is paired with turmeric, an ancient recipe that helps warm the body, dilate blood vessels and reduce inflammation. The curcumin which is the active compound in turmeric (ours is 6% and higher!) is paired with piperin which is the active compound in pepper - creating a powerful anti-inflammatory when used in combination with excellent flavor.  Be sure to add a bit of fat, such as ghee or high quality olive oil whenever you can and that will aid absorption even more. When used daily for more than 8 weeks, these ingredients have shown in clinical studies to help reduce chronic inflammation.

Is your salt low sodium?

Spicewell Salt is 30% lower in sodium than regular table salt or regular Himalayan salt. We are proud to have sodium reduction in a way that actually enhances the flavor. Most people prefer our salt to regular salt.

What are adaptogens and phytonutrients?

Adaptogens are a class of herbs that help your body adapt to stress and maintain balance. Phytonutrients are the natural chemicals present in plants - these often give fruits and vegetables their color and are helpful in preventing chronic disease. We are so excited about plant medicine, be sure to check our Instagram for more facts on the amazing world of phytonutrients.

Organic, Gluten Free, Vegan and Non GMO

Do I need to be concerned with lead, arsenic or other chemicals?

The spice world is full of things that make us deeply unhappy such as toxic metals, irradiation, and high contents of lead and arsenic.  That is why we set out to do better. We regularly double lab test our ingredients and batches to ensure that we do not have any harmful substances in Spicewell products. Our latest independent lab verified results are here. We believe in transparency, and though there are no safe levels of lead, arsenic or mercury, it exists in the soil so trace amounts will end up in the foods we eat. Spicewell minimizes this risk by keeping our levels extremely low, well below what the FDA considers low. Join us in an effort by Consumer Reports to mandate that all seasonings sold in the U.S. are safe from heavy metals.

Are your products organic?

Our products are not certified organic, because some things like salt can not be declared organic - but all of our vitamins and minerals as well as the majority of our ingredients are organic. We will be aiming to be 100% organic in the near future.

Are your products Vegan, Gluten Free and Non GMO?

Yes, they are in fact! We have worked hard with our sources to ensure that we are delivering the highest quality ingredients in every batch. We are always gluten free and everything we create is also suitable for vegans.

Technical & Usage

Can Spicewell replace my vitamins?

Nope! We are meant to help you achieve your full recommended daily intake of vitamins but we highly recommend getting the majority of your daily vitamins, fiber, fat and protein from real whole foods! Consult your doctor about taking any supplements. We are not a replacement but we will get you 10% more vitamins than what you are getting using regular salt and pepper.

How did you get the vitamins in all of the products?

That is a trade secret. But what we can tell you is all of our vitamins and minerals are sourced from organic veggies and fruits in a special process that maintains their nutritional density through cooking, soaking, or in their dry form.

How do I store these products?

Please store our products in their original packaging or in a opaque, airtight container. Our organic ingredients have a tendency to oxidize when exposed to too much light and air - which doesn't affect the nutritional content, or the flavor but it won't look as nice. Please don't leave salt in an open container such as a salt cellar or bowl - it is best used straight from our shaker or yours.

How long do these products last?

Each lot we produce comes with a best by date, which means it will have the most potent nutrient content until that date. However, you can use them far beyond that date and the flavor will not be affected.
